Proxy Certificate

Accessing secure websites – Certificate Installation

Now that you have access to the schools Guest Wi-fi connection, please see the below information on how to access secure websites whilst using the service.

When using external devices such as laptops and mobiles phone on the schools guest wi-fi network, to access secure websites, you will need to install a security certificate on your devices.

This is because website filtering is applied to your connection in the same way as a school device would be.

This certificate can be found at the bottom of this page (The top certificate is for Windows 10/OSX/OSX Firefox/iOS, the bottom certificate is for Chrome OS/Android). Please choose the set of instructions that matches the device/operating system/web browser that you are trying to use.

Windows 10 (Most Browsers) 

1. Download the certificate 

2. These instructions will install the proxy certificate directly on your computer. These instructions will work with most browsers, including Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge. Once these steps are complete, the proxy certificate will be installed on your computer.

3. Type in "mmc" in the Ask me anything box next to the Start button. Click on the mmc run command to launch the application. Click Yes, if prompted, to allow the application to make changes to your device.

4. Within the console, click on the File menu and select Add/Remove Snap-in.

5. Within Add/Remove Snap-in click on Certificates under the Available snap-ins category and then click Add.

6. On the Certificates snap-in menu, select Computer account and click Next.

7. On the Select computer menu, click Local computer and then click Finish. Click OK to exit the Add or Remove Snap-ins menu.

8. Double click Certificates (Local Computer) under the Console Root menu. This will open up subfolders with various certificate stores.

9. Right click on the Trusted Root Certification Authorities folder, select All Tasks¸ and then select Import.

10. Click Next on the first page of the Certificate Import Wizard.

11. On the File to Import page, click the Browse button, and browse to the location where you downloaded the Proxy Certificate.

12. Select the ls-rocket.der file and click Open. Note: You will need to have "All Files (*,*)" selected as the file type when browsing.

13. Click Next.

14. On the Certificate Store page, make sure that the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store is selected and click Next.

15. Click Finish.

Note: If you are using Mozilla Firefox, then please refer to the Windows Firefox proxy certificate installation instructions after completing these steps.

Windows - Firefox Browser 

1. Download the certificate

2. Open Firefox. Click on the Menu button and select Options.

3. Click on Advanced on the left-hand menu and then select Certificates. Click on View Certificates

4. Click on the Authorities tab and then click Import.

5. Browse to the location where you downloaded the ls-rocket certificate. Select the ls-rocket certificate and click Open.

6. In the Downloading Certificate dialog box, check the boxes next to Trust this CA to identify websites. Click OK.

7. Click OK on the Certificate Manager box.

 

OSX (Most Browsers) 

1. Download the certificate

2. These instructions will install the proxy certificate directly on your computer. These instructions will work with most browsers, including Google Chrome and Safari. Once there steps are complete, the proxy certificate will be installed on your computer.

3. Open Keychain Access (Finder-Applications-Utilities-Keychain Access)

4. Click on File on the top navigational menu and select Import Items.

5. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the proxy certificate. Select the ls-rocket.der file and click Options on the bottom left. Select System as your Destination Keychain option and click Open.

6. Navigate to System and select Certificates. You will see the Lightspeed Rocket certificate.

7. Doubleclick the certificate to pull up its options. Change the value for When using this certificate to Always Trust.

Note: If you are using Mozilla Firefox, then please refer to the OS X Firefox proxy certificate installation instructions after completing these steps.

OSX - FireFox Browser 

1. Download the certificate

2. These instructions will install the proxy certificate directly on your computer. These instructions will work with most browsers, including Google Chrome and Safari. Once there steps are complete, the proxy certificate will be installed on your computer.

3. Open Firefox. Click on the Menu button on the top right corner and select Preferences.

4. Click on Advanced on the left-hand menu, select Certificates, and then click on View Certificates.

5. Select Authorities and click Import.

6. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the proxy certificate. Select the ls-rocket.der file and click Open.

7. Check the box next to Trust this CA to identify websites. Click OK.

 

iOS 

1. Once you have downloaded the certificate, tap the Install button. (if you get a warning, tap Install again)

2. Tap the Done button.

3. Go to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings > Enable the certificate under "Enable Full Trust for Root Certificates"

 

Android 

1. After you download the certificate, you will be asked to name the certificate and choose its credentials. Give the certificate a name of your choosing, and select VPN and apps as the credentials. Click OK.

2. You will receive a confirmation that the certificate has been installed.

 

Chrome OS 

1. Download the Certificate

2. Click on your user profile on the bottom right-hand side of the screen. Select Settings from the menu.

3. Scroll down on the Settings menu and click Show advanced settings...

4. Scroll down to HTTPS/SSL and click Manage certificates...

5. Select the Authorities tab

6. Scroll down and click Import

7. Navigate to the directory where you saved the ls-rocket-chrome.crt file, select the file, and click Open.

8. Check the box next to Trust this certificate for identifying websites and click OK.

9. Click Done on the Certificate manager page
