The report makes a judgement on attitude to learning – this describes how well your child approaches learning in the classroom and attitude to homework – this describes how your child approaches learning outside of lessons. A positive attitude to learning is essential for success and continued progress.
The report will also include information on your child’s attendance for the academic year. This information is also available to parents and carers on Arbor at any time.
For students in Key Stage 3 (Year 7-9) the report also gives an indication of how well your child is achieving in each subject area. Firstly, a percentage (%) mark is shared, this is the percentage mark that your child achieved in their recent class assessment (practical subjects may not always give a percentage mark).
Second, an attainment descriptor is given, indicating how well your child is achieving overall in a subject. This descriptor will consider a combination of assessments, testing different knowledge and skills, including practical skills over the academic year.
For students in Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 are given a Minimum Expected Grade (MEG). As a school we use Alps to generate these targets based on a student’s KS2 results. Alps uses full national datasets from the DfE each year to generate Minimum Expected Grades (MEGs) that reflect progress made by students in the top 25% of schools and colleges. MEG target grades are aspirational; however we do not consider these as a ceiling in terms of what students can go on to achieve in individual subjects and each year, many of our students exceed these challenging targets through hard work, dedication, and focus.
Reports for Year 10 and Year 11 students includes a GCSE grade for their most recent assessment and Year 12 and Year 13 an A Level grade. In addition, Year 10 – 13 students will receive an estimated final grade, this represents the teacher predicted grade for the final summer examinations.
We recognise the importance of parent engagement and the positive impact this has on students’ performance. There is a Parent’s Evening for every year group each academic year, which is an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress directly with subject teachers. However, we encourage parents / carers to email tutors, subject teachers, or the Head of Year, if you ever have any questions or concerns.
