Inspire STEM Day
Inspire STEM Day 2023
On Monday 23rd January we were very proud to host our second Inspire STEM Speed Networking event. An event which promoted the STEM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
All Year 8 and 10 students were involved in the Speed Networking opportunity in the sports hall. We had an amazing 19 guests from a variety of professions including Data Scientists, Statisticians, engineers and a Physiotherapist and Psychiatric Nurse. The students had 8 minutes to talk to their chosen speakers, to find out about their jobs, what they do and how they get there. All questions were welcomed and we had some fantastic discussions – well done to all our Year 8 and 10 students our guests were very impressed.
We were delighted that so many of these speakers were also alumni from St Albans, a fantastic opportunity for our students to see past students and to find out where their own paths could take them. In the afternoon a number of guests stayed and hosted workshops for our Year 12 and 13 students.
Sometimes it is difficult to imagine what you can do with a Maths or Science degree, but the opportunities are endless. Our passions and aspirations can guide us to so many different fields, if you love food or crime – these can always been turned into the most interesting jobs from food scientist to a forensic psychologist.
A big thank you to Mrs Keating-Fedders for organising this amazing event and to all our inspiring alumni and guests!
We hope many of our guests will be back again and remember that every Tuesday lunchtime we have employers giving Insight talks – come join us in the Careers Suite.
