PSHEE

 

This is taught by a combination of form tutors and guest speakers. An outline of course content is included below:

Departmental Aims ‘Life is an Education’ and through PSHEE & Citizenship, form tutors deliver a range of topics to students that hold great value in a child’s personal learning to issues in life.
Topics include careers, relationships, identity, global community, drugs and financial management among many other topics.
Students develop their confidence, discussion skills and awareness of other around them enabling them to make mature and responsible decisions.
PSHEE & Citizenship is taught to every student across the school on one fixed period each fortnight.

KS3

Delivered by the form tutor, strong relations are developed within the form group covering a range of topics. Each area covers 2 or 3 lessons.
Pupils look very much at themselves and their own strengths, developing their skills, enabling a more confident and more approach to life.
Topics covered in Year 7 include – economic well being, assessing risk, human rights, careers, drugs and health.
Topics covered in Year 8 include – citizenship, drugs, careers, relationships, emotional health and prejudice. The year group benefit from speaking to the school nurse and a police education officer during these topics.
Topics covered in Year 9 include – economic well being, careers, relationships, global citizens, safety, drugs and GCSE option choices.
Assessment takes the form of discussion, role play, media work and written work.

KS4

Delivered by teachers in the school specialising on a particular topic, students build on their Key Stage 3 learning with a particular emphasis on taking a responsibility for their decisions and choices.
Topics covered in Year 10 include preparation for work experience, CV writing, drugs, special educational needs, personal safety, identity, parenting and careers.
Topics covered in Year 11 include career or education opportunities after GCSE, parenting, financial capability, citizenship, drugs, dealing with stress and gender stereotyping.
Both year groups benefit from expert speakers who have great experience in industry.
Students develop a folder of evidence detailing their learning and assessment covers this and any activities such as discussion and role play that takes place in lessons.

KS5

Delivered by form tutors and outside speakers, PSHEE lessons cover a range of key issues preparing students for life after 6th Form. The programme works on a 2 year cycle.
Term 1 sees students cover key topics relating to the law and citizenship issues.
Term 2 allows students to choose their own topics which they feel will enhance their learning. Topics in the past have included ‘cooking on a budget’ ‘speaking Italian,’ ‘Ballroom dancing for beginners’ and ‘brain training.’
Term 3 focuses on educational and careers issues such as CV writing and University applications.
